Disappointed The Food Saver worked fine for about a month and then sometimes it would only seal parts of the bag so no vacuuming could take place.
Suck it up We have been using a Food Saver since the mid 90s. Our old machine finally died so we bought this new one. We read a lot of the negative reviews and they did cause a little concern but we trusted that Amazon would take care of us if there were a problem. When we got the new machine my wife hooked it up and it has been working perfectly ever since. Very happy with this new Food Saver vacuum sealer. It is nice looking fits nicely on the counter and does an outstanding job. We could not be more satisfied.
Glad I Bought One I bought this model a few months ago. I really like it and find it works quite well. I have a hard time cutting a straight line so I bought this model because it has the automatic bag cutter. I had an older Seal A Meal once and it didn't work if the bags were not cut in a straight line. The Food Saver V3460 works like a dream. The only complaint I have about the Food Saver is the noise when it vacuums. However I have a tile counter and that may add to the noise. All in all I'm very happy with mine and am very glad I bought it.
Newer model is disappointing I'm not a whiner I am however a consumer who has used older versions of this product and can attest that while this model is space saving and attractive it is a far cry from the quality of the previous two cheaper models we owned. In particular this model often does not pull out a sufficient amount of air to ensure that the item will not have freezer burn. As others have said you need quite a few more inches of leeway in your bag in order to get the machine to work properly no doubt ensuring you spend more $$ on bags. However the motor does not seem to be as strong as in previous models so if you have too large a bag you will not get a properly vacuumed end product. Also the machine does not as handily detect that there is a bag in place. Finally the black on grey touchbuttons are notoriously difficult to see if your lighting is at all dim. All in all I am not pleased with this product and would not recommend it to a friend. You can find a better vacuum sealer out there for the money.
Better Than Before I was given a smaller version of the Food Saver for Christmas a few years ago. It developed a break in the sealer so would no longer seal air tight. So we bought the new one and were surprised with some of the upgrades. I read some pretty negative reviews but love the machine.
Great so far! It has worked great for the short time I've owned this model. Haven't had any problems with bag sensing as others have said.
Bags too thin? Everything works as it should but. I have to fiddle around with the bags a bit to get the vacuum to engage no big deal. The big problem for me is that after it does a great job of vacuuming and sealing the bag two out of three bags will have a slow leak!!! The seals appear to be fine. maybe sharp edges on the dried fruit or beef jerky are poking a small hole in the bag? I don't know but it is a major problem. It's not Like I'm putting nails and broken glass in there. It shouldn't be a problem.
Not Hard Core We bought this anticipating using it to freeze garden vegetables and since my husband hunts various game meats. This appliance would work well for the occasional user however with hard core useage like a years worth of green beans or a whole deer this machine will break everytime. We have gone through two of them within a year and decided it wasn't worth our money anymore and have upgraded. If you are going to use this machine casually it will work great for you. If you are looking for a real work horse pay a little more and get something better.
My first sealer but works fine for me Not sure why there are so many complaints or how the heck so many people can't seem to get this thing working. After about 15 mins of screwing around with it my only issue was a few bags that didn't seal properly but this was because I was sealing unfrozen meat. The water exiting the bag prevented the seal a bit on each corner. Reading the directions helped a bit. The paper towel trick works fine so does hitting the stop button as soon as you see the machine drawing juices away from the food. Can't comment on longevity I just bought it this evening and sealed 15 items or so with no problems at all.For people complaining about it automatically going into moist mode pay attention and poke around a bit before giving up or read the manual. There are two metal strips in the drip tray. Water is a conductor. If there is any moisture in the tray it closes the circuit and trips into moist mode. Clean it out after each wet use. Seems like a bit of an unnecessary/annoying feature but not rocket science.
