Vac 900 very easy to use First see Wally's review. He is right on the money across the board. I too have a Compact II AKA 550 and the biggest hassle is making the intial seal when creating a bag from a roll of plastic. There is a pretty narrow placement window beyond the sealer strip BUT not into the vacuum channel. The 900 on the other hand allows you to just pull the bag material out of the builtin holder to the length you desire set the machine to 'seal only' seal the bag and then cut it with the builtin cutter. Truly a perfect job every time easily. Of all of the extra features this one pleases me the most. It is a competent unit and well worth what I paid for it in my opinion.
Order another model! I ordered the 900 as a gift for my son when his old 550 died after long use. The first one wouldn't vacuum the bags or the canister so I sent it back and Amazon replaced it. Bad move. The second one goes back too. It would only vacuum so that it *stayed* vacuumed on the extended vac which the directions said NOT to do all the time. I tried two bags which appeared sealed for a couple of hours and then clearly had more & more air leak into them. Now my problem is deciding what model to get to replace the old oneand where to buy it from I'm tired of running to UPS to return them.
Get's better and better I got this as an upgrade from the Vac 550. The main reason was to have the bag cutter built into the unit. Also I liked the idea of the manual seal option with the 900. I am very glad I got a Vac 900. The bultin bag cutter is quite handy scissors no longer needed. The Vac 900 looks very similar to the Vac 800 but has a couple of features over the 800 1 the manual seal option. This allows one to switch the machine from drawing the air out of the bag to stop and then seal. This is really handy to store items which would ordinally be crushed such as donuts. 2 hands free operation. To use the hands free operation on the Vac 900 one just pushes down on the lid a few seconds then releases. The machine then automatically shuts off when the seal is done. Like many of the other Foodsaver machines the Vac 900 has an accessory port. Thus one can use that with the optional mason jar sealer which I use often.
nice gadget but produces too much waste I bought this product many years ago and it's still in great working condition. However I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would. I have also started being increasignly concerned about packaging foods in plastics and BPA leakage. I'm also annoyed that the packaging can only be used once and I'm producing too much plastic garbage. So while the product performs as promissed I will give it away and find alternate sources for food storage.
Open Me In 3 Years Hello AllI just unpacked my new Vac 900 and am thrilled to report this thing SUCKS! Wait now that's a GOOD thing in this case. WOW! I'm very impressed by the suction power of this machine and the features it has just can't be beat. I've never owned a FoodSaver before but I asked PLENTY of people who do about what they thought of them. Not one person had anything bad to say about their FoodSaver.I can't say enough good things about this machine it came packaged with numerous premade bags 2 rolls of bag material 1 plastic vacuum container the universal vacuum lid and last but not least the bottle vacuum lid.The manual states that on certain foods you can extend the shelf life to 3 YEARS! HOLY COW! This gem is going to save me major cash on those foods you purchase At Sam's Club or Costco that ALWAYS seem to spoil before you get to the last of it.Do yourself a favor if you have a family or perhaps just don't like to shop all the time get the Vac900 and start saving some cash. Oh and how will I use my new Vac900? I'll be using it in my food smoking business to preserve all my great tasting products.
